- Preparation: Sit on a hard, flat surface, preferably without padding, such as a kitchen stool or bench.
- Lay a sheet of paper: Place a sheet of paper on the surface you are sitting on.
- Sit comfortably: Sit comfortably with your back straight and your feet flat on the floor.
- Position yourself correctly: Tilt your pelvis slightly forward to simulate the riding position on a bicycle.
- Mark the contact points: Using a pencil or pen, mark the points where your sitting bones touch the paper. The sitting bones are the pointy bones you can feel under your buttocks when you sit.

Measure the distance: Measure the distance between the two marks you made. This will give you an indication of your ideal saddle width. This measurement may vary depending on the distance between your sit bones.
